Herbert Zimmerman Dies at Iowa City

Funeral services for Herbert N. Zimmerman, 69, who died Friday, Jan. 11 at University Hospital in Iowa City, were at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic church in Remsen. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery.

Mr. Zimmerman was born Nov. 9, 1887 at Le Mars. He married Margaret Duster at Le Mars in 1912. In 1920 the couple moved to Remsen. He was employed in Remsen as a mechanic.

Survivors include the widow; a son, John W. of Remsen; a brother, Henry, of Medical Lake, Washington; and a sister, Mrs. Lester Brown of Le Mars.

Herbert Zimmerman Passes On Thursday

Burial Rites Monday for Well Known Lifelong Resident Plymouth County

Burial rites were held in St. Mary’s Catholic church Monday morning for Herbert N. Zimmerman, 69, longtime resident of Remsen and lifelong resident of Plymouth county, who passed away January 10 in University hospital, Iowa City.

Born In LeMars

Mr. Zimmerman was born November 9, 1887, in LeMars the son of Nicholas and Sara Zimmerman, early settlers, and grew up in that city.

In St. James Catholic church in LeMars June 15, 1912, he was united in marriage to Margaret Duster. Mr. Zimmerman was employed in a grocery, later in the farm implement business in LeMars for eight years and the couple came to Remsen in 1920. Here Mr. Zimmerman was a farm implement Zimmerman and for many years was in the employ of the late implement firm of Homan & Daldrup. He retired three years ago when failing health overtook him.

Herbert (Herb) Zimmerman was well known over Zimmerman area around LeMars and Remsen, well liked, a faithful husband, father and friend and his rather sudden passing came as a source of regret among those who knew him. A lifelong member of the Catholic faith he was faithful also to his church and a regular attendant and one who reflected its teachings in his daily life.

Services

Wake was held in the Fisch funeral home, which had charge of funeral arrangements and directing. Hundreds of friends over the county called to pay their respects Sunday and for rosary recital at eight o’clock Sunday evening.

Services Monday were offered by the pastor of the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Francis P.. Schuletes, and interment was in St. Mary’s cemetery.

Pallbearers were Henry A. Treinen, Ed Bergin, Al Zeiman, Robert Schnieders, Bud Philips and James Muller.
