Mary E. Schwartzkopf

Mary Ellen Schwartzkopf, 77, of Brookings, S. D., died on May 17, 1993, at the Brookings Hospital. She is the sister of Cora Utesch of LeMars.

Mrs. Schwartzkopf was born Aug. 29, 1915, at Merrill, the daughter of William and Allyce (Hughes) Casler. She spent her early years and received her education in rural school at Merrill, attended Central High School at Sioux City and later in LeMars. She married Bernard Schwartzkopf July 31, 1937, in LeMars. From 1947 to 1965, they owned and operated The Cue at Brookings. In 1965, they moved to Lake Preston where they owned and operated Barney's Bar until 1973. Mr. Schwartzkopf died in October 1973 at Lake Preston. She moved back to Brookings in 1973.

She was a member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Brookings.

Survivors include two daughters, Lynne (Mrs. Omar) Olson of Brookings and Vicki (Mrs. David) Cleveland of Mathews, N. C.; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ruth (Mrs. Cleve) Wait of Port Hueneme, Calif., and Cora Utesch of LeMars.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, William; two sisters and a brother.

Services were held May 21 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Brookings, with Rev. James Michael Doyle officiating. Interment was at St. Thomas More Catholic Cemetery.
