Carl Heinrich Belau was born May 27, 1897 to Gustaf and Ricke Dedloff (Detloff) Belau on a farm near LeMars, Iowa. While still a small boy he moved with his family to a farm near Garretson, South Dakota where he attended country school. He later attended a business college in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. On January 7, 1924, he was united in marriage to Mary Warren at Sioux Falls, South Dakota.... They settled on a farm near Garretson, South Dakota, later moving to a farm near Jasper, Minnesota. In 1929 they moved to their farm south of Pipestone, Minnesota. In 1969 they retired and moved to Pipestone where he spent the remainder of his life. He was an active member of the Peace United Methodist Church of Pipestone, served a number of terms on the Elmer Township Board and several terms on the Federal Land Bank Board. He was a member of Hope Lodge No. 89 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of Pipestone.
Besides his many friends he is lovingly remembered by his wife; two brothers, Arthur of Garretson, South Dakota; Arnold of Jasper, Minnesota; and number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Louis, and an infant son.
