Gary Lee Sheldon, 11, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Sheldon, of LeMars, former Estherville residents, died Sunday morning from injuries received in a car-bicycle accident Friday afternoon in LeMars.
The lad was riding home from school when he was struck by a car. He was taken to LeMars hospital and transferred to St. Joseph’s hospital at Sioux City Saturday morning.
Gary was born in Estherville on July 25, 1950, and was baptized in the Estherville Lutheran Church. At LeMars he had been a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was a sixth grader in the LeMars schools, and had lived there since 1960, when his parents moved from Estherville.
He is survived by his parents and an eight-year-old brother, David. He was the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Les Sheldon of Iowa City and Mr. and Mrs. Hans Johnson of Estherville.
Other survivors include his great-grandmother, Mrs. Dolly Quinn of Estherville, and aunts and uncles: Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Johnson, and Mr. and Mrs. Deryl Johnson, of Estherville; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Sheldon and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Koap of Iowa City; and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Sheldon of Mobridge, S. D. Several cousins also survive.
Family services are scheduled for 8 p.m. tonight at Luken’s Funeral Home in LeMars. Public services are to be tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock at St. John’s Lutheran Church in LeMars with burial to be at Resthaven Memory Gardens in LeMars.

RITES TUESDAYFuneral services will be held Tuesday afternoon for Gary Lee Sheldon, 11, who died early Sunday at St. Joseph hospital in Sioux City from head injuries suffered when he was struck by a car while crossing a LeMars street.
The boy and his brother, David, 8, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Sheldon, were riding Gary’s bicycle on their way home from school to their home at 525 Fourth St. SE, when they were struck by a car driven by Dale Reichle, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Reichle, 435 Second Ave. SE, as they crossed the north side of the intersection of Fourth St. and Fifth Ave. SE.
The injured youth was rushed to Sacred Heart hospital, and later moved to St. Joseph hospital in Sioux City. He suffered a fractured skull when he was pitched from his bicycle to the pavement.
Lukens funeral home is arranging the funeral services at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John American Lutheran Church in LeMars. The Rev. Robert Floy will conduct the services and burial will be in Resthaven cemetery.
The Sheldon family moved to LeMars from Estherville a few years ago. He is employed at the Supersweet Mill here.
Gary Lee was born July 25, 1950, at Estherville, Ia. He was a fifth grade pupil at the LeMars public school.
Survivors include, in addition to the parents and the brother, the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Johnson of Estherville; the paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Sheldon of Iowa City; and a great-grandmother, Mrs. Dolly Quinn of Estherville.
