MARTHA A. SCHMIDT

Martha A. Schmidt, 93, longtime LeMars resident, died unexpectedly Monday (Jan. 30, 1989) at her home. She was a lifelong Sioux and Plymouth county resident.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's American Lutheran Church in LeMars with Rev. David Kramer officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, LeMars, under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday with the family present at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m.

The former Martha Onken was born April 18, 1895, at Ireton to Hio and Margaret Ricklefs Onken.

She married Fred J. Schmidt Oct. 18, 1916, at Ireton. He died in 1968.

She was a member of St. John's Church and of the women of ELCA.

Survivors are two sons, Donald Schmidt of LeMars and Wallace F. Schmidt of Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs. Les (Ramona) Pecks of LeMars; a sister, Mrs. Harold (Laura) Lehrman of Hawarden; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Madonna Clement; five sisters and four brothers.
