Walter Zimmerman Dies at Age 81

Walter Zimmerman, 81, lifetime LeMars and area resident, died Sunday at his home at 1134 Central Ave. SE after a three year illness.

Walter Gottlieb Zimmerman was born March 23, 1884, in LeMars. He farmed southeast of Merrill until retiring to LeMars in 1946.

His marriage to Anna Lydia Lippke took place Feb. 3, 1909, at Merrill. He was the son of George Washington Zimmerman and Louise Berner Zimmerman.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Mauer funeral chapel. Burial will be in Stanton township cemetery near Merrill. Rev. David S. Hadley will officiate.

Survivors are his wife, Anna; children, Mrs. Harold (Lois) Rees, Mountain Lake, Minn.; Kenneth, of St. Paul; Roy, of Sheldon; Noble of Audubon; Evelyn A. and Carol G. Zimmerman, both of LeMars, and Mrs. Loren (Pearl) Smith of Waterville, Minn.

There are 11 surviving grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Irwin E. Brandstetter, LeMars, and Mrs. E. P. Lippke, rural Merrill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.

Mr. Zimmerman was a member of the Orange City Gospel church.
