Resident of Plymouth County for 61 years Died Tuesday

Funeral Service will be held on Friday for Mrs. Rees, who passed away at her home after a long sickness. Mrs. Rees died Jan. 13, 1948 at the age of 64 years, 1 month and 9 days, and had been sick for the past eight years.

Emma Mathilda Detloff, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Detloff, was born in Bloomington, Illinois, on December 4, 1883. She came to Plymouth County with her parents in 1886**. She lived in Le Mars until 1902. In Feb. 1906 she was united in marriage to William Rees and they lived on a farm until moving back to Le Mars in 1936. Mrs. Rees was a member of the Ladies Aid Society.

Survivors include her husband, and seven children. Lila, Orval, Melvin and Wallace of Le Mars, Harold of Merrill, Mrs. Cleon Dunn of Remsen, and one brother, Will Detloff, LeMars. She also leaves 5 grandchildren and a number of relatives and friends who will mourn her passing.

Short funeral services at 1:30 at the home will preceed the service at 2:00 o'clock at the Evangelical United Church on Friday January 16th
Rev. H. O. Thompson will officiate at the services. Burial will be in the city Cemetery under the direction of the Mauer Funeral Home.

(**Note--Emma's parents were living in Plymouth county, Iowa for the 1880 census and at the time of her father's death in April 1883. Emma, who was born 8 months after her father's death, was born back in Illinois, suggesting her mother returned to Illinois before Emma was born, coming back to Iowa with Emma and her brother, William, in 1886.)

Mrs. Will Rees, 415 First Avenue S. W., died January 13 at her home after having been an invalid for years.

Emma Matilda Detloff was born December 4, 1883, in Bloomington, Illinois, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Detloff. In 1886 the family moved to LeMars where the deceased grew to womanhood. On February 20, 1906, she was married at Seney to Will Rees who survives her. Mr. and Mrs. Rees lived on a farm near Seney until 1936 when they moved to LeMars.

Six children born to Mr. and Mrs. Rees survive with their father to mourn their mother's loss: Lila Rees, LeMars; Mrs. Cleone Dunn, Remsen; Orville (sic--Orval) and Melville (sic--Melvin), who live near Seney; Harold of Merrill and Wallace at home. Mrs. Rees is also survived by five grandchildren and a brother, Will Detloff of LeMars.

Funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Hildreth Memorial church with Rev. H. O. Thompson officiating. Burial will be in LeMars city cemetery.
