ROBERT L. MARSHALL
Robert L. Marshall, 72, of LeMars, formerly of Hawarden, died Monday, July 27, 1998, at The Abbey in LeMars.
Mr. Marshall was born Nov. 25, 1925, in Union County, S.D., the son of Chester and Sarah (Henry) Marshall. He served with the U.S. Army from 1946 to 1948 in Korea and Japan. On April 27, 1952, he married Ruby Diercksen at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden.
The couple farmed on the family farm until moving to Hawarden in 1956. He was employed at several gas stations and then as a mechanic at McCarthy Implement. He retired in 1969. Robert moved to The Abbey in December of 1988.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the LeMars American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby, of Hawarden; three sons, and their wives, James and Leslie of Brawley, Calif., Reed and Julie of Cleghorn, and Bart and Lorraine of Hawarden; a daughter, Barbara DeVries of Hawarden; a brother Russell and his wife Edna of Ireton; a sister, Hilda Cain of Sioux City; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Gloria Jean; five brothers, Roy, Sam, Milton, John and Herbert; and two sisters, Florence Storrs and Beulah McKee.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden with the Rev. Dean Shelly of the United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery at LeMars. Visitation will be Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.
