FUNERAL THURSDAY AT ST. JOSEPH’S

Mrs. Omer (Florence) Topf, 84, longtime LeMars resident and Plymouth County native, died Monday (Feb. 29, 1988) at Floyd Valley Hospital after a brief illness.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in LeMars with her son, Rev. Thomas Topf of Estherville, as celebrant and the pastor, Rev. Dale George, as homilist. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in LeMars under the direction of the Luedtke-Feuerstein Funeral Home in LeMars.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Christian Mothers Rosary will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday with the parish rosary at 7:30 p.m. and the Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 8 p.m.

The former Florence K. Deegan, she was born to William and Kathryn Quinlan Deegan on a farm five miles east of Struble in Elgin Township, Plymouth County. She was reared and educated in that area, attending rural schools. She graduated from LeMars Central High School and attended Western Union College in LeMars. She taught in an Elgin Township rural school.

Her marriage to Omer Topf took place April 14, 1926, at St. James Church in LeMars. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Sergeant Bluff for seven years and then in the Salix area for 35 years, retiring to LeMars in 1969.

Mrs. Topf was a member of St. Joseph’s Church, the Christian Mother’s Society, the Catholic Daughters of America, and the Catholic Ladies Club.

Survivors are her husband, Omer, of LeMars; six sons, Omer Francis of Ossian, Iowa; William C. of Orange, Calif.; Philip A. of Cedar Rapids; Rev. Thomas J. Topf, Estherville; Robert J. of Salix; and Mark D. of Dubuque; and a daughter, Mrs. David (Marilyn) Jonas of Orange, Calif.; 20 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters.
