REMSEN, Iowa -- Marvin Galles, 80, of Remsen died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Mr. Galles was born Nov. 14, 1924, in rural Remsen, the son of Michael and Anna (Schnieders) Galles. He was raised in the Remsen area until 1930, when he moved with his family to near Granville, Iowa. He received his education in both the rural school system and St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen. He then was a farm laborer in the Remsen and Granville area.

On Jan. 8, 1946, he married Margie Konz in Alton, Iowa. They made their home near Archer, Iowa, where they farmed until 1949, when they moved to the Neptune area to farm. In 1958, they moved to a farm near Marcus, Iowa, and one year later moved to a farm southeast of Remsen. They retired and moved into Remsen in July 1995. In September 2000, he became a resident of The Abbey of Le Mars, Iowa and had been a resident of Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen since September 2002.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed the family sing-alongs that they had and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Margie of Remsen; two sons, Gerald and Charles and his special friend, Jan Richardson, all of Remsen; five daughters, Sharon and her husband, Thomas Harpenau, and Janet and her husband, Ric Hansen, all of Alton, Iowa, Donna and her husband, David Waldschmitt, of Remsen, Judy and her husband, Dennis Bollmeyer, of Hinton, Iowa, and Linda and her fiance, Terry Feder, of Struble, Iowa; 30 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a brother and his wife, Milton and Arlene of Remsen.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David; two brothers, Emmanuel and Arnold; and a sister, Evelyn Pottebaum.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Bollmeyer, John and Joseph Galles, Jeff Harpenau and Rick and Rod Waldschmitt.
