MERRILL, Iowa -- Anna M. Franklin, 77, of Gresham, Ore., formerly of the Merrill area, passed away Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at her home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa, with the Rev. Dr. Klaus Raab of St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the funeral home.
Anna Marie Mueller was born Dec. 2, 1925, in Hinton, Iowa, to August and Emma (Luettke) Mueller. She was raised and educated in the Hinton and Merrill area.
On Feb. 28, 1944, Ann and Emerson Franklin were united in marriage. During World War II, Anna worked in Portland, Ore., in the shipyards on Liberty Ships as a welder. In 1963, the couple moved to Colorado and to Gresham in 1969.
Anna's true love was that of a mother and homemaker. She was an avid quilter, seamstress and did all varieties of needlework. A "farmer to the end," she raised chickens and steers. Anna was also active at Trinity Lutheran Church, where she made cakes and decorated them for its monthly potluck activities.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Emerson of Gresham; a son, Darrell E. Franklin of Bonanza, Ore.; five daughters, Shirley A. Thompkins of Frederick, Colo., Sue Shields of Vancouver, Wash., Nancy J. Riley of Parker, Colo., Bonnie Charron of West Haven, Conn., and Patsy L. Franklin of Denver, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, August C. Mueller of Troutdale, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Darlene N. Franklin; a grandchild; and a brother, John W. Mueller.
