Adam Seel, pioneer resident of Plymouth county, was born December 14, 1854 in Germany, and passed away on Tuesday evening, July 23, at Sacred Heart hospital in Le Mars. He was 84 years, 7 months, and 3 days old at the time of his passing. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran church in Amherst township Friday at 2:00 p.m. and were conducted by Rev. Noack of Remsen.

At the age of 8 years, Mr. Seel immigrated to the United States and located at Chicago where he grew to manhood and received his public school education and was confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran church.

The family again moved west, settling on a farm near Oxford, Iowa, where Mr. Seel met Miss Mary Immel. They were married at Iowa City on February 22, 1881, and established their home on a farm near Exira, Iowa. In 1885 they moved to the farm near Remsen which has since been the family home.

Mr. Seel retired from farming in 1917 and made his home with members of the family until the spring of 1928 when he came to Marcus to reside. On October 18, 1939 he was stricken with illness and taken to the hospital where he received relief and returned to the home of his son, Adam, on October 29, 1939, where his health improved measurably. In May of this year sickness again overtook him and he entered the hospital on July 17 where he died six days later.

The family circle was broken by the death of Mrs. Seel on December 8, 1911, and again in 1916 when the son and brother, George, passed away. The surviving children are: (Sophia) Mrs. Henry Hanno, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; (Laura) Mrs. George Letsche, Humboldt, South Dakota; (Mary) Mrs. Jacob Kappler, Remsen; Fred, Remsen; (Elizabeth) Mrs. William Wilka, Larchwood, Iowa; John, Remsen; (Ella) Mrs. John Maass, Remsen; and Albert of Remsen; and Adam of Marcus.

He is also survived by his twin sister, Mrs. Margaret Klenk, of Homestead, Iowa, 27 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Six grandsons of the deceased were pallbearers. They are Glen Hanno of Sioux Falls, Alfred and Lawrence Letsche of Humboldt, George Kappler and Marvin Seel of Marcus and Lloyd Wilka of Larchwood -- Marcus News.
