Robert A. Bachmann, 85, of Sioux City, formerly of Granville, Iowa, died Friday, April 23, 2004, at Sunrise Retirement Community.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville, with the Rev. Kenneth Seifried officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Granville. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen, Iowa. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. Monday until service time at the church in Granville.

Robert was born Sept. 30, 1918 in Granville, the son of Joseph and Elnora (Bunkers) Bachmann. He was raised in Granville and received his primary education at St. Joseph's Catholic School in Granville and his secondary education at St. Mary's Academy in Alton, Iowa, from which he graduated in 1936.

He married Joan Treinen on May 7, 1941 at Remsen, Iowa. The couple lived in Missouri for several months. Robert was then inducted into the U.S. Army on Dec. 17, 1942. He served in Europe during World War II, then being discharged on June 12, 1944. The couple made their home in Granville, where Robert opened Bachmann Electric in December of 1944. In 1950, Robert then took over his father's drug store after his death in addition to running the electrical store. Joan died Jan. 11, 1969. Robert then moved to Sioux City and worked as an electrician until 1975, when he became a Realtor. At the time of his retirement in September of 2002, he was working at United Real Estate Solutions in Sioux City.

He was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, AARP, Iowa Board of Realtors and National Association of Realtors.

Survivors include four daughters, Mary and her husband, Alvin Wolf, of Henderson, Nev., Janet and her husband, Don Loutsch, of Le Mars, Iowa, Jeannie Theis and Joyce and her husband, John Fuxa, all of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Dennis and Kim and Thomas and Brenda, all of Montpelier, Va.; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alice and her husband, Warren Heinen, of Halbur, Iowa, Clarice Moravek of Sioux City and Emily and her husband, Joseph Flaherty, of Los Angeles, Calif.; a brother, Fran and his wife, Marilyn, of Omaha, Neb.; and a brother-in-law, Tom Sanders of Allen, Texas.

In addition to his wife, Mary, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Christopher in infancy and Roger; three brothers, Ray and his wife, Mary, Joseph and James; and a sister, Helen Sanders.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
