IRETON, Iowa -- Rebecca "Becky" Lou Asseln, 43, of Ireton died Friday, March 15, 2002, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church in Craig, Iowa, with the Rev. Pete Petersen officiating. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Craig. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Rebecca was born May 13, 1958, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Lowell and Fern (Plueger) Schultz. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron on June 15, 1958, and was later confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars in 1971. She graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1976. She married Keith Asseln on Nov. 18, 1978, at St. John Lutheran Church in Craig.

She had worked for Dick Morris Chevrolet in Le Mars for a few years and later worked in the Plymouth County Treasurer's Office. In 1995, she went to work at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars as the dietary manager. While working at Floyd Valley, she continued her education and earned her certification as a dietary manager. In January 2000, she was honored by the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce as "Boss of the Quarter."

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Craig, and had served as treasurer and president of the congregation in 2001. She loved to cook and bake. Becky and Keith enjoyed traveling. Her family and many friends will miss her.

Survivors include her husband; her mother of Le Mars; three sisters and their husbands, Pat and Al Gollhofer of Le Mars, Susan and Dave Moller of Craig, and her twin sister, Rhonda and Larry Bowers of Le Mars; her husband's parents, Elmer and Shirley Asseln of Ireton; a sister-in-law, Carol Ping of Maple Grove, Minn.; seven nieces and nephews, Kevin, Brad and Josh Gollhofer, Travis Moller, Jennifer and Ashley Bowers, and Ryan Ping; two great-nephews, Patrick and Vincent Gollhofer; and a great-niece, Kelsey Gollhofer.

She was preceded in death by her father on Sept. 18, 1999; a brother-in-law, Roger Ping; and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
