WILLIAM GRONEMEYER

William Gronemeyer, 83, LeMars, lifelong Plymouth county resident, died Tuesday (Feb. 3, 1981) at Plymouth Manor Care Center after a long illness. He had been at the Center two weeks.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John American Lutheran Church in LeMars. Rev. Tom Lee will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens under the direction of the Mauer funeral home.

Mr. Gronemeyer was born May 10, 1897, Preston Township, rural LeMars, to Fred and Wilhelmina Barinsky Gronemeyer and was a lifelong Plymouth county resident.

He married Evelyn Smith Feb. 12, 1924, at Sioux City. He farmed until 1949 and then worked for the Plymouth county maintenance department. He worked for LeMars Community schools in later years.

Mr. Gronemeyer was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Eagles club.

Survivors are his wife: two sons, Glenn of LeMars and Russell of Tripoli; four daughters, Mrs. Ray (Jean) Hartmann of Anthon, Mrs. Wayne (Mildred) Winterfeld of Fairbury, Neb., Mrs. Ronald (Edith) Sechler of Meriden, and Mrs. T. G. (Norma) Flint of Wilmer, Ala.; 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Fred of LeMars; and one sister, Mrs. W. E. (Caroline) Barker of LeMars.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Dorothy in 1971; three grandsons; and three brothers, Arthur, George and John.
