KINGSLEY, Iowa -- H. Dean Fletcher, 78, of Kingsley died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at his residence following a brief illness.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Earnest-Michaelson Funeral Home in Kingsley, with the Rev. Scott Meier of Salem Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the funeral home.

Mr. Fletcher was born July 30, 1923, in rural Kingsley, the son of Herbert and Florence (Atkinson) Fletcher. He married Bonnie White on April 10, 1944, in Dakota City, Neb. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 1944, and served until November 1945. He operated heavy equipment and dragline for 55 years for Flewelling families. He also lived and farmed on the family farm from 1962 to 1974. Mrs. Fletcher died March 19, 1997.

He was a member of American Legion Nash Post 140 of Kingsley.

Survivors include two sons, Terry and his wife, Barb Fletcher of Kingsley, and Danny Fletcher of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Deanna and Brad Grabe of Barnesville, Minn.; a son-in-law, Verdel Humburg of Ellendale, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Travis Fletcher, Vonda Humburg, Sherri DeJoode and her husband, Chad, Vicki Humburg, Missy Grabe, Scott Grabe and his wife, Sonya, and Nick Grabe; and four great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Marilyn Humburg; and a brother, Vernon.
