MARVIN M. AHRENS

MERRILL, Iowa --- Marvin M. Ahrens, 72, of Merrill died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa, with the Rev. Curtis Matson of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron officiating. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Ahrens was born Aug. 22, 1928, in Brewster, Minn., the son of Carl and Sadie (Frey) Ahrens. He attended school in Norcross, Minn.

He married Lois Crow in 1947, in Norcross. He was employed with Brothers Paper Co. for 45 years, retiring in 1991. His wife died in 1994.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Jerry and Barb of Kingsley, Iowa, and Larry and Linda of Dallas, Texas; two daughters and their husbands, Kathy and Bob Gray of Hudson, S.D., and Chris and Ron Whitead of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Henry and Eleanor of Wheaton, Minn.; three sisters, Helen Munson and Wilma Anderson, both of Wheaton, and Marion Roest of Bullhead City, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Evelyn.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Ron, Michael and Justin Gray, Stacie Whitead and Kelly and Jason Ahrens.
