JOSEPHINE AHRENDSEN
MERRILL, Iowa --- Josephine Pauline Ahrendsen, 99, a Merrill native and lifelong resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 1995, at The Abbey in LeMars.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill with the Rev. Craig D. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery at Merrill. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in LeMars.
Mrs. Ahrendsen was born July 14, 1895, in Merrill, the daughter of Felix and Wilhelmina (Wedstedt) Karli. She grew up in the Merrill area, where she attended school. She married Nis Ahrendsen in August 1918 at LeMars. The couple farmed near Merrill for many years. In 1950 they moved into Merrill and continued to farm near Merrill. He died in 1966.
Mrs. Ahrendsen was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church and was a member of the first class to be confirmed at the church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mildred Kurtz and her husband, Laverne of Kingsley; a son, Melvin Ahrendsen and his wife, Marion of LeMars; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson.
She was preceded in death by a son, Bernard Ahrendsen; a grandson, Keith Ahrendsen; two sisters, Emma Jessen and Amanda Carstensen and a brother, Emil Karli.
