Raymond Howard Clarey, 70, of Beardstown, Ill., formerly of Sioux City, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, in Jacksonville, Ill.
Services were held Nov. 27, at St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown. Burial was in St. Alexius Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown.
Mr. Clarey was born Aug. 4, 1934, in Merrill, Iowa, the son of John F. and Esther (McCorkell) Clarey. He graduated from Liberty High School in Merrill in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958.
He married Helen Mae Braun on June 20, 1959, in Sioux City. He began his employment with Kent Feeds Inc. in 1958 in Sioux City as a night mixer and later became plant manager. He also served as plant manager of Kent Feeds Inc. in Estherville, Iowa, and Beardstown. He retired in 1998 as the eastern region vice president of plant operations.
He was an active member of St. Alexius Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge 1007 in Beardstown and served on the board of directors of the Beardstown Park District and the Beardstown United Way. He maintained the St. Alexius Catholic Cemetery for 31 years. He enjoyed music and dancing, but his greatest pleasure in life was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons and their wives, Patrick and Kimberly Clarey of Jacksonville, Ill., and Daniel and Jill Clarey of Columbus, Neb.; two daughters and their husbands, Kaye and John Hardwick of Beardstown and Colleen and Mark Ramsey of Meredosia, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, Trenton, Nathaniel, Chelsie and Braun Clarey of Jacksonville, Ill., Kyle, Dillon, Colton and Jacey Clarey of Columbus, Neb., and Sam and Claire Hardwick of Beardstown; two brothers and their wives, Al and Carol Clarey of Le Mars, Iowa, and Rich and Jean Clarey of Petaluma, Calif.; five sisters, Patricia Graham of Sioux City, Ann and her husband, Leo DeRocher of Merrill, Iowa, Lucy and her husband, Emmett Sitzmann of Kingsley, Iowa, Lu and her husband, Denny Beck of Columbus, Neb., and Donna and her husband, Phil Vondrak of Sioux City; and 58 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Freddie, Dan and Jack; and three nephews.
Pallbearers were his sons, Pat and Dan Clarey; his sons-in-law, John Hardwick and Mark Ramsey; and grandsons, Trenton, Nathaniel, Kyle, Dillon, Braun and Colton Clarey and Sam Hardwick.
