Chapman, Esther Sea 1905-2004

CHAPMAN, WACHTLER, BENDER, SEA

Esther Sea Chapman, 99, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, in Sioux City.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Augustana Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Del Olivier officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7:30 p.m. today, with the family present from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel.

Esther was born on Aug. 14, 1905, on a farm east of Hinton, Iowa to Fred and Elizabeth (Bender) Wachtler. Esther attended and graduated from high school in Hartington, Neb.

Esther married Lester Sea on May 19, 1927, in Sioux City. Mr. Sea passed away in 1957. She then married Clifford Chapman in June, 1977. Esther worked many years as a sales clerk for Kresge and Sears. She also volunteered at Red Cross and Goodwill Industries.

She was an active member of Augustana Lutheran Church. Esther enjoyed working on and fixing up old dolls for Goodwill. She also enjoyed traveling and did so extensively in her later years.

Survivors include a son, Darold Sea, and his wife, Alice, of Sioux City; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a son, Donald Sea; a sister, Gladys Wachtler; and four brothers, Art, Lester, Doc and Joy.
