KINGSLEY, Iowa -- George G. Case, 82, of Kingsley died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005, at Royal C. Johnson Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. following a courageous battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. today at Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. Burial will be in Kingsley Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

George G. Case was born April 9, 1922, in Kingsley, the son of Grant and Charlotta (Kisting) Case. He grew up in Kingsley and graduated from Kingsley High School in 1940. He joined the U.S. Army Reserves in 1941 and had basic training at Camp Claybourne, La. He served with the 133rd Infantry, 34th Division, Company K, known as the Red Bulls. They were mobilized to Ireland for training and then to Africa and Italy until the surrender in 1945. During his honorable military career, he earned three Purple Heart Medals, a Bronze Star Medal and a Silver Star Medal among numerous other medals.

He married Bonnie R. Lou Mills on July 3, 1945, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He graduated in 1948 from Iowa State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Iowa. In 1948, he began teaching and coaching in the Belle Plains, Estherville and Graettinger, Iowa areas.

In 1958, he started a sales job with General Mills in Sioux Falls, S.D., followed by a job in sales with Span American Boats in Fort Dodge, Iowa. In 1973, he started his newspaper career as the manager of the Rocket in Le Mars, Iowa. From there he moved to be the publisher of the Knoxville Reminder in Knoxville, Iowa, for several, moving to Le Mars in 1986 to be the co-owner of the Leader Shopper's Guide until his retirement in 1990. After retirement, he did many odds and ends jobs to keep busy.

He was a member of the American Legion Nash Post 140 of Kingsley and served as a former commander. He also was a member of the Masons. He enjoyed ballroom dancing, golf, most sports, a good home cooked meal, the 3D's and spending time with his family.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Grant and Mary Case of Ackworth, Ga.; two daughters and their husbands, Diane and Mike Evans of McCook Lake, S.D., and Michelle and Bill Plendl of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Shannon and Monte Jost of Le Mars, Iowa, Mike and Kristie Evans of Canfield, Ohio, Kaden and Tami Thieman of Holden, Mo., Elisha Evans of McCook Lake, S.D., and Emily Case and Sarah Case, both of Ackworth, Ga.; seven great-grandchildren, Amanda and Dylan Hawkins, Montanna, Eryn and Zack Jost, all of Le Mars, Mason Evans of Canfield, Ohio, and Brayden Evans of McCook Lake, S.D.; a brother, Walt Case of Le Mars; two sisters and their husbands, Blanche and Tex Turner of Iowa Falls, Iowa, and Alice and Max Rasmussen of Sioux City; several nieces and nephews; and his very special friend, Ardy Baker of Quimby, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie in 1992; and a great-granddaughter, Samantha Hawkins in 2001.

Honorary pallbearers will be his six grandchildren.
