LE MARS, Iowa -- Eugene "Gene" Buhman, 65, of Le Mars passed away Thursday, April 21, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital following a long fight with heart disease.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness of St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. officiating. Burial will be 3:15 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City, with military rites conducted by American Legion Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.
Eugene Marvin Buhman was born Nov. 13, 1939, on the family farm in Johnson Township, rural Le Mars, to Marvin "Bud" and Alice (Johnson) Buhman. He attended country school in Grant Township and later graduated from Le Mars Central High School. Gene entered the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Otis Air Force Base in Massachusetts. He later was assigned to Elmendorf Air Base in Alaska and then to Mt. Clemons Air Base in Clemons, Mich.
Gene was united in marriage to Louise Massola and had three children, Michelle, Amy and Matt. Gene was later married to Jan Fennell and had three children, Tammy, Tonia and Travis. Gene had worked as a diesel mechanic prior to his illness. His work was his hobby. You could always find him at his shop, "Gene's Diesel," at all hours of the day or night. When he did take a rare day off, he liked to go fishing with his family at "Soddy's" in Lake Park, Iowa.
His daughters will remember him as their hero. His sons were his pride. Gene treasured his many friendships and enjoyed playing hard with his friends. He was very proud to be a grandfather to his seven grandchildren.
Survivors include his mother, Alice Buhman; three daughters, Michelle, Amy and Tonia; two sons, Matthew and Travis; four brothers, Thomas, Bruce, Jeff and Mark and his wife, Mary; seven grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin; a daughter, Tammy; a nephew, Benjamin; and his brother-in-law, Wilfred Fennell.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Buhman, Brett Udell, David Barkley, Larry Barkley, Bill Barkley, Steve Barkley and Andy Barkley.
