MOVILLE, Iowa -- Elzie F. Bottjen, 83, of Moville died Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Happy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Kingsley, Iowa, with the Rev. Duane Miesner officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will begin after 2 p.m. Monday, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Elzie was born Feb. 10, 1921, at Moville, Iowa, the son of George and Minnie (Burrow) Bottjen. He attended school in the Moville school system. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He married Mildred M. Stolley on Nov. 17, 1946, in Climbing Hill, Iowa. She died April 30, 1993. They farmed on the Bottjen family farm for several years and he then began his well drilling business in 1960. He married Marian Conover of Holstein, Iowa on June 11, 1994. She died on Nov. 11, 1999.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Kingsley.

Survivors include his wife, Lavon Bottjen of Sioux City; two sons, Dean Bottjen and his wife, Charlene of Watseka, Ill. and Eric Bottjen and his wife, Peggy of Omaha, Neb.; a daughter, Debra Wenham of Kingsley and her special friend, Jeff Clark; and three grandchildren, Brian, Scott and Cara Bottjen. Also surviving are two brothers, Carl Bottjen and his wife, Gladys of Hawarden, Iowa and Cecil Bottjen and his wife, Inez of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mildred; a son-in-law, Gary Wenham; his wife, Marian; four brothers; and two sisters.
