MARCUS, Iowa -- Mildred Bindner, 84, of Marcus died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital in Cherokee, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, with the Rev. Anthony Pick, her nephew, and the Rev. Richard R. Remmes officiating. Burial will be in Holy Name Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Thursday, with a Catholic Daughters of America rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all in the church basement. Arrangements are under the direction of Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen, Iowa.

Mildred was born Aug. 7, 1917, in rural Oyens, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Mary (Feller) Pletschette. She was raised in the Oyens area and attended rural school, St. Joseph's Catholic School in Le Mars, Iowa, and graduated from Central High School in Le Mars in 1935. She then attended Western Union College in Le Mars, after which she taught rural school in Fredonia Township and O'Brien County, Iowa.

She married Leonard Bindner on May 19, 1942, in Le Mars. They farmed near Remsen until 1949, when they moved to a farm near Marcus. They moved into Marcus in 1976.

She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, St. Ann's Guild, of which she was a former president, and Catholic Daughters of America, where at one time was Grand Regent. She also belonged to several bridge and pinochle card clubs and was a former member for many years of the Marcus Hobby Club.

Survivors include her husband, Leonard of Marcus; three daughters, Janet H. and her husband, Erich Broer, of Lincoln, Neb., Genevieve R. Howe of McKinney, Texas, and Anna M. and her husband, Neil Samuelsen, of Richardson, Texas; three sons and their wives, Gerald M. and Karen of Visalia, Calif., Peter L. and Julie of Marcus and Fred D. and Dinah of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Lawrence (Cecil) Pick of Alton, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Nick and Martin Pletschette; and six sisters, Mrs. Mike (Clara) Loutsch, Mrs. Hubert (Tillie) Jochum, Mrs. Art (Christine) Schuster, Mrs. Albert (Regina) Miller, Mrs. Bill (Helen) Bindner and Mrs. Ivo (Agnes) Swain.

Pallbearers will be Dave and Doug Alesch, Chuck and Steve Peters, John Sand and Max Treinen.
