LE MARS, Iowa -- Marcia Ann Birkenholz, 64, of Le Mars died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Floyd Valley Hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Church of the Brethren in Prairie City, Iowa, with the Revs. Timothy Peter and Eldon Cole officiating. Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Monday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, with family present beginning at 6 p.m., and a prayer service at 8 p.m. There will also be an hour of visitation at the church prior to the services on Tuesday.
Miss Birkenholz was born Jan. 2, 1937, in Des Moines, the daughter of Frederick and Minnie (Gezel) Birkenholz. She lived most of her life with her parents in Des Moines. She attended Church of the Brethren in Prairie City. She later attended Simpson United Methodist Church in Des Moines. When her parents died, she moved to Le Mars to be closer to her sister. In Le Mars, she had been part of the semi-independent living program developed for the mentally handicapped and participated in the Plymouth Life Care and Work Program. She was currently a member of Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars and a resident of The Abbey.
Survivors include her sister and her husband, Deloris Jean and Al Maser of Le Mars; two nephews, Mark Allen Maser of Omaha, and Thomas Scott and his wife, Lisa Maser and their daughter, Madeline of Le Mars; two uncles, Lawrence Birkenholz of Des Moines, and Gary and his wife, Dorothy Gezel of Pella, Iowa; two aunts, Kathryn Rozenburg and Dorothy Mullins, both of Monroe; and numerous cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
