Leonard 'Baldy' Anthony

LE MARS, Iowa -- Leonard "Baldy" Anthony, 80, of Le Mars died unexpectedly Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, at Chadron Memorial Hospital in Chadron, Neb.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Andrew Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars, with military rites conducted by Wasmer Post 241 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with a rosary at 4 p.m., a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m., all at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Leonard was born March 19, 1922, in Mapleton, Iowa, to Eugene and Mary (Schleis) Anthony. He attended school in Union Township. He served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947.

On Sept. 16, 1947, he was united in marriage to Joanne Holzman at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. Leonard owned and operated Anthony's Mobile Milling in the Le Mars area for many years.

Mr. Anthony was a member of St. Joseph's Church, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and Holy Name Society. "Baldy" enjoyed volunteer work, yard work, sitting outdoors on his patio, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Joanne of Le Mars; a son and his wife, Randy and Donna of Des Moines, Iowa; two daughters and their husbands, Renee and Roger Staab of Crawford, Neb., and Bev and Ken Langel of Le Mars; 10 grandchildren, Mike and Mark Anthony, Corey Staab and his wife, Kristan, Emily and Tony Staab and Joseph, Megan, Kirsten, Katie and Chad Langel; two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jared Staab; three sisters, Eileen "Toots" and her husband, Vic Langel and Bernice and her husband, Mark Koopman, all of Le Mars, and Helen Langel of Norfolk, Neb.; and numerous other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Elmer, Albert, Donald and Laverne.
