AKRON, Iowa -- Luceen G. Anderson, 84, of Akron died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, in Akron.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron, with the Rev. Laurice Streyffeler officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
Mrs. Anderson was born Feb. 3, 1918, in Plymouth County, rural Akron. The family moved to Gering, Neb., in December 1923, where she attended Lincoln Elementary School. They returned to the Akron area in March 1930. She attended Hoyt School in Union County, S.D., and Akron Public School.
She married Fay Waterbury on Nov. 10, 1934, in Elk Point, S.D. The couple moved to Akron in February 1936. In March 1941, they moved to a farm in Union County. Mr. Waterbury died June 7, 1951. She worked at Otis Radio and Mapes Nursing Home in Hawarden, Iowa, the Akron hospital and Tucker Cleaners.
On Dec. 3, 1955, she married Milford Anderson in Luverne, Minn. The couple moved to a farm in Union County. In December 1960, they moved into Akron. He died July 16, 1961. For about 15 years, she had an Akron news report over radio on KLEM, cleaned the Savings Bank and city hall and worked at the Hi Way Cafe. In May 1975, she received her general education diploma from Western Iowa Tech Community College.
Survivors include her children, Janiece Waterman of Hawarden, Iowa, Joan Coleman of Akron, Larry Waterbury of Sioux City, Jay Waterbury and his wife, Marsha, of Wichita, Kan., and Lori Hansen and her husband, Staci, of Akron; her stepchildren, Merlowe Anderson and his wife, Chau, of Frazier Park, Calif., Carol Wiersma of Culver City, Calif., and Kay Smith and her husband, Tom, of Bishop, Calif.; a brother, Charles Stinehart of Toppenish, Wash.; a brother-in-law, Marlo Waterbury of McCook Lake, S.D.; 24 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was also preceded in death by three sons, Kervin and Marlin Waterbury and Michael Anderson; a grandson, Tim Stotz; two sisters and a brother.
