VIVIAN E. NASON, ‘91

Vivian Eleanor Nason, of Sioux Falls, died Tuesday, October 8, 2002, at Edgewood Vista, in Sioux Falls.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, October 11, at St. Joseph Cathedral, Sioux Falls, with burial at St. Michael Cemetery, Sioux Falls. Arrangements were handled by the George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.

Vivian was born November 12, 1920, in Akron, the daughter of Ross and Anna Mae (Montagne) Root. She grew up and graduated from Akron High School in 1929. Vivian attended the University of South Dakota, Vermillion, for three years. She then taught in rural Iowa schools for two years.

Vivian and Lester F. Nason were united in marriage in Akron on July 29, 1934. The couple had five daughters. She graduated from Augustana College, in Sioux Falls in 1962. She then taught at Edison Junior High School in Sioux Falls for 17 years before retiring in 1973.

Vivian was member of St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Daughters of America, Cathedral Club, Center for Active Generations, Fire Fighters Auxiliary, Retired Teachers and was a charter member of the Toastmistress Club.

Survivors include four daughters, Joan Kittelson and her husand, Karol, of Yankton; Kathryn Lemme of Festus, MO.; Darla Wright and her husband, Rance, of Athens, GA.; Dorothy Holmbeck and her husband, Mel, of Sioux Falls; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Root and his wife Phyllis of Vermillion; one sister, Teddy Earnest of Akron; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, on January 15, 1987; a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Nason; and her parents.
