Louella "Lu" Delperdang, 82, of Sioux City died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Merlin J. Schrad of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church officiating.
Louella "Lu" L. Delperdang was born June 22, 1921, in Oyens, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob and Katherine (Orbah) Doud. A graduate of Oyens School, she attended Westmar College in Le Mars, Iowa, graduating as a teacher. She received her teaching certificate in 1939. She taught at a country school in Plymouth County for two years before enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
Lu met Merle N. Delperdang while in the military, and they were married on Feb. 12, 1945, in Waco, Texas. He passed away in 1999 in Sioux City. Lu enjoyed researching and spent countless hours accumulating records on the genealogy of Plymouth County.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Senior Center and the Terra Alta Court Association. Lu did a great deal of research regarding politics and was blessed with a quick wit. She was well-known for her positive attitude and her humor sheets which she shared with everyone.
She is survived by her extended family, Joe and Gail Simoni of Lawton, Iowa, Ken and Tammy Maaske of Sioux City, Ron and Rikki Cheney of West Des Moines, Iowa, Mike and Sue Simoni of Lawton, Jeff and Patrice Kuecker of McCook Lake, S.D., Patsy Simoni of Sioux City and their families.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
