Friday, March 18, 2005Jack Moritz, 74, of Le Mars, died Thursday, March 17, 2005, at the Charter House in Rochester, Minn.
John "Jack" Moritz was born Nov. 5, 1930, in Sioux City, the son of John and Maggie (Simonsen) Moritz. Jack lived on a farm near Kingsley, until he was eight years old when the family moved to a farm near Struble. He attended school at Struble and later went to school in Le Mars where he graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1947. Following high school, Jack continued to farm on the family farm. He was united in marriage to Delores Renken on June 1, 1950, at Christ Lutheran Church in Grant Township, rural Le Mars.
Jack and Delores lived on the farm near Struble until 1989 when they moved to Le Mars. Jack continued to farm until the early 1990s.
In the early 1960s, Jack operated the Standard Oil Tank wagon out of Struble for a number of years. Jack had also worked as an insurance claims adjuster for 24 years.
Delores died Aug. 30, 1997. Jack later married Doris (Kennedy) Hauser on Sept. 19, 1998, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Akron. Jack and Doris made their home in Le Mars.
Jack enjoyed playing cards and traveling, having enjoyed several trips to Branson, Mo., and a trip to the Hawaiian Islands.
Jack was a longtime member of Christ Lutheran Church in Grant Township where he had served as president of the congregation and also served on numerous other church boards. During the last few years, Jack was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars.
Survivors include his wife, Doris of Le Mars; four children, Denny and Monica Moritz of Austin, Texas and their son Ryan, Kristi and Steve Emerson of Mt. Pleasant, and their son Kyle, Karen and George Klotzbach of Ames, and their children Katie and John, and Kevin and Beth Moritz of Moorpark, Calif., and their children, Ashley and Brooke; four step-children, Linda and Bob Duff of Winterset, Susan and Bob Robertson, Ned and Deb Hauser, and Russell and Cindy Hauser, all of Akron; two sisters, Marjorie and her husband, Don Page of Kingsley, and Merleen "Bobbie" Mentzer of Zearing; seven step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; several in-laws: Wilma Renken of Le Mars, Melvin and his wife Marian Renken of Manson, Iowa, Marlys Renken of Le Mars, and Elmer and Lorraine Renken of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delores in 1997; and a 3-year-old daughter, Deborah Moritz.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., in Le Mars with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Interment will be in Christ Lutheran Cemetery, Grant Township, rural Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today (Monday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present to greet friends after 6 p.m. and there will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Bob Lancaster, Duane Herman, Bruce Frerichs, Doug Downing, Tim Renken, and Terry Renken. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack's Car-Go coffee gang and his Legion card buddies.
