Grace E. VanNimwegen

Grace E. VanNimwegen, 96, a longtime resident of LeMars and Merrill died May 16, 1983, at South Haven Nursing Home, Birmingham, Ala., where she had resided since 1978.

Mrs. Van Nimwegen was born May 7, 1887, in LeMars to Andrew and Grace Duus. She attended school in LeMars and was graduated in 1905 from Western Union (now Westmar) College.

In 1909 she married John C. VanNimwegen. With the exception of a brief residence in Rapid City, Mrs. VanNimwegen was organist or pianist at the Presbyterian Church in LeMars or the Methodist Church in Merrill from 1907 to 1943.

In 1908 she was the pianist for silent movies at the LeMars theater. Her 73 years of piano teaching included students from LeMars, Merrill, Hinton, South Dakota and California.

Survivors are two daughters, Pat Jacobson, Oak View Calif., and Joan Simpson, Birmingham, Ala.; a sister Esther Sherman at Happy Siesta Home in Remsen; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild.
