Former Resident Taken By Death
Member of Well Known Elgin FamilyWilliam McArthur, 75, of Sioux City, former resident of this county, died at a hospital in Sioux City Wednesday afternoon from complications resulting from arteriosclerosis. A leg, which had become gangrenous, was amputated two weeks ago.
Mr. McArthur was born February 25, 1864, at Guelph, Ontario, Canada. When he was nine years old his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel McArthur, came to Iowa and settled on a farm in Jackson county and in the early eighties came to LeMars and bought land in Elgin township.
William McArthur farmed for a number of years in earlier days and then moved to Sioux City where he lived the past forty years.
He leaves his wife and three sons, Earl McArthur, formerly prominent as a professional boxer, Nathan, a railroad engineer, and Lloyd, of Sioux City.
Lloyd is in St. Joseph hospital, Sioux City, recovering from an accident several weeks ago in which he suffered fractures of both legs when he was struck by an automobile.
Mr. McArthur also leaves four brothers, John, of Paola, Kansas, Al and Duncan, of Seney and Dan McArthur, of Sheldon. There are eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at the First Baptist church in Sioux City.
