Charles Arens

Charles Arens, well-known Remsen resident, passed away on Thursday, October 18, at the Sacred Heart hospital following a sickness which lasted several months.

Mr. Arens was born November 4, 1894, at Alton. He was a retired farmer and had resided the past eight years in Remsen. His wife is the former Theresa Rodesch.

Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, October 20, at St. Mary’s church in Remsen with Msgr. Schultes officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s cemetery in Alton under direction of the Fisch funeral home.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter Marlene and five step children: Mrs. Lou Beckmann, Westbrook, Minn.; Mrs. Ed Herrig, Alton; Mrs. Roland Porter, Storm Lake; Marvin Mai, Sioux City; and Bob Mai, Remsen; two brothers Fred and Paul Arens of Remsen, also survive, as do four sisters: Mrs. Mary Hoffmann, Wadena, Minn.; Mrs. Katherine Kinney, of Alton; Mrs. Elizabeth Gengler, of Oyens; and Mrs. George Homan, of Alton. Nineteen grandchildren also survive.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Luxembourg brotherhood of America.
