Mrs. Katherine Kirpes, wife of Nic Kirpes, died at her home on the Peter Schmidt farm, north of Remsen, Thursday, June 8th [correct date of death 17 Jun 1908], after an illness of many years from asthma. Mrs. Kirpes was born in Dubuque county, thirty-nine years ago, as the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Schmidt. In 1875, Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt came to Plymouth county and in 1888 their daughter, Katherine, became the wife of Nicholas Kirpes with whom she lived happily. Their union was blessed with five children, the oldest nineteen and the youngest five years old. Mrs. Kirpes suffered much but bore her troubles with admirable patience to the last. Funeral Saturday, June 20th, at 10 a.m.
