George F. (actually "E" for Emery) Hodgson

Funeral services for George F. (sic--E.) Hodgson, 87, were held Monday at the United Methodist church at Wessington Springs, S. D.

George Hodgson was born near LeMars Aug. 15, 1893. His parents were Robert and Sarah Bainbridge Hodgson. He died Thursday (April 16, 1981) at Weskota Manor in Wessington Springs.

He farmed his father's farm near LeMars until he entered the U. S. Army during World War I, seeing action overseas.

He married Blanche Easton of Wessington Springs, S. D., Dec. 31, 1919. They resided on his father's farm three years near LeMars, where he farmed in partnership with his brother Robert.

In the spring of 1923 they moved to a farm near Wessington Springs, S. D., where they lived until they retired and moved into town.

They had two children, Merlin and Ruth Ann, who preceded him in death.

Burial was in Hope cemetery with military rites by the Wessington Springs American Legion.

Survivors include his wife of Wessington Springs, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; a brother Robert C. Hodgson of LeMars.

Other family members preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Those from the area who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Hodgson, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Hodgson and daughter Jill; Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hodgson; Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hodgson; Gerald Hodgson; Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Roger Easton and Mr. and Mrs. Don Lake. Also George Heckenlively of Garner, Iowa and Mrs. Wayne Penning, Fontana, Calif., who is visiting relatives here. She accompanied the Hodgsons to the funeral.
