Mr. and Mrs. Henry Becker of LeMars observed their 59th wedding anniversary Saturday with members of their family and a few friends who gathered at their home. Mr. Becker, native lowan, was born in Clayton county Feb. IS, 1889, while his wife was born in Mecklenburg, Germany, March 28th the same year. She came to America when 12 years of age with her parents, early settlers in eastern Iowa. They came to LeMars in 1881 and purchased a farm in Sioux County near Struble. They were married Nov. 28, 1879.
Mr. Becker farmed successfully for many years in Sioux county and was an extensive livestock feeder. He was one of the founders of the Farmers State Bank at Struble and for many years served as president of the bank. He has served as president of the German Farmers Mutual Insurance company of Lyon, Plymouth, and Sioux counties for 49 years.
Mr. and Mrs. Becker have eight children living: Mrs. E. B. Carlson, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Emil and Miss Lillian Becker and Mrs. John Brangwin, LeMars; Mrs. M. M. Harrison, Sioux City; H. D. Becker, Madison, S. D.; and H. R, Becker and Miss Norma Becker of LeMars. There are 29 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The Becker family is well known to pioneer residents here and they all join in wishing them many more happy anniversaries. Fifty-nine years of happy married life with all the joy and contentment, yet with plenty of trials, heartaches and worries are interwoven with gladness and sorrow, has been their lot May each milestone reached as they travel together shine brighter and may the sunset of life be one of radiance and tranquility
