SENEY MINISTER LONG IN SERVICE
Pastor Is Feted On 52d Anniversary

A group of Methodist ministers held a reception on Monday, April 16, at the Seney Methodist parsonage in honor of Rev. James E. Lombard to celebrate his completion of 52 years of continuous service in the ministry.

Rev. Lombard joined the East Maine conference at Machias on April 16, 1893, having two years previous become a supply pastor. He entered Bowdoin college after completing a high school course in Brunswick, Maine, and was graduated in the Class of ’94 from Bowdoin college. When a small boy he attended a dedication of Memorial Hall at Bowdoin college and there heard Henry W. Longfellow read some poems.

He received his first appointment to preach at Gotts Island, off the coast of Maine, and continued preaching in Maine for the next 12 years and was then transferred to a South Dakota conference. After preaching seven years in South Dakota, he was sent to an Iowa Conference district and while there was pastor at Greenfield, Highland Park, Des Moines, Osceola, Logan. He was then transferred to Sioux City where he was pastor in a Sioux City church for six years, and then served at Hartley, Pomeroy, Belmond and Sutherland and is now serving his second year in Seney.

In his association with his pastorate in Sioux City, he was four years at the head of the Anti-Saloon League.

Those present at the reception were Rev. and Mrs. Frank Bean of Sioux City; Rev. and Mrs. Willard Bell and daughter, Margaret of Hawarden; Rev. and Mrs. A. A. Howe of Akron and Miss Elizabeth Howe, of Baltimore, Maryland; Rev. & Mrs. J. J. Share of LeMars; and Rev. and Mrs. Wm. Zabilka, of Merrill. The guests brought and abundant potluck dinner which was enjoyed by all. Rev. Lombard was presented with a beautiful plaque with a religious inscription in honor of the occasion.
