Philip Tockley, who died at LeMars this week, was for sixteen years in the
artillery service of England, enlisting in 1867. He saw service in India,
South Africa and other parts of the globe, and received a medal for bravery
in the Afghan way in 1879. He was under Lord Roberts when that general made
his celebrated march to Kaudahar and was also present at the battle of
Tel-el-Kebir in Egypt in 1882.
