Mandelkow-Jelken Wedding Sunday

Wed at St. John's Lutheran Church

St. John's American Lutheran church was the scene of a pretty wedding Sunday, June 15, at 8 p.m., when Miss Shirley Mandelkow, daughter of Mrs. Anna Mandelkow, became the bride of Henry Jelken, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Jelken, Sr., all of LeMars. Rev. L. L. Belk performed the ceremony.

The bride was attractive in a gown of white taffeta with double net skirt, round neckline and net yoke. She carried a bouquet of pink and yellow roses with yellow streamers tied with orchid sweetpeas. Her matron-of-honor, Mrs. Wm. Vogel, was attired in a pale green gown. The bridesmaids, Mrs. Alvin Jelken and Mrs. Harold Mandelkow, were gowned in yellow and orchid respectively. They all carried colonial bouquets. Flower girls were Sharon Kay Vogel and Karen Walden. The groom was attended Harold Mandelkow and Alvin Jelken, with Elmer Kruse, Arnold Klemme, Wilmer Klemme, Ronald Smid and Glenn Breitbarth serving as ushers.

During the ceremony Lenyce Ahlfs and Bob Becker sang "Lord's Prayer," "Because" and "I Love You Truly." Twelve girls dressed in pastel colored formals sang "O Take My Hand Dear Father" and "Blest Be the Tie that Binds". The bride was given in marriage by her uncle, Ernest Reelfs of Vermillion, South Dakota.

Following the ceremony a reception was held in the church parlors.

The bride is a graduate of the LeMars high school and attended Western Union college. She has taught four years in Plymouth county.

After a trip to Grand Rapids, Michigan, and points east, the young couple will make their home at 31 4th Ave., SW, LeMars.
