LE MARS WOMAN MARKS 100TH BIRTHDAY TODAY

Centurian Mary Gunther of LeMars will remember her 100th birthday today (Friday) as a snowy affair. She couldn’t attend her party at the senior center because it was cancelled due to a winter storm warning.

However, most of her 16 grandchildren had planned to be in LeMars for the big event, and she will be able to enjoy their company.

She will be honored Sunday, March 5, with open house from 2 to 4 p.m. at the First Methodist Church hall. Mrs. Gunther, active in her own home, not only attends the congregate meal at the senior center each weekday, but she also regularly attends Sunday church services.

She asks only the presence of relatives and friends as her gift on Sunday.

She and her late husband, Henry Gunther, operated the LeMars Rendering Works for many years. Their three sons have died. Mrs. Gunther has 16 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.
