William Hamilton Family-Daisy Alderson Hamilton came to Merrill by train
with her family from Darlington, Wisconsin, in 1888. She lived on a farm west
of Merrill and walked to attend school in Merrill.She often told her family
about herding cattle on the prairie. The family moved to the Adaville vicinity
where she met and married William Hamilton. William Hamilton and his family
helped build the railroads through Kansas before moving to a farm near Adaville
early in the 1880's. The Hamiltons farmed near Rubel and Adaville and bought a
farm in Liberty Township in 1906 where they lived until Mr Hamilton's death in
1926. Mrs Hamilton lived the rest of her life in Merrill. To this union eight
children were born:James Hamilton, Merrill; Wesley Hamilton (deceased) who
helped Merrill grow by building a gasoline station now the Merrill Farm Supply,
a restaurant (Kar Kornor), and the Hamilton Addition and several new homes; Veo
Hamilton Dougherty(deceased) Milwaukee, Wis.; Ruth Hamilton Holtzen, Sioux
City, Iowa; Jennie Hamilton Ferguson, State College, Pennsylvania; Arleen
Hamilton Rath, Hinton, Iowa; Ayleen Hamilton Clark and Wayne Hamilton both of
Merrill.
