James Arthur Haegele 1941-2020

James Arthur Haegele was born to Elmer and Eldora (Vande Vooren) Haegele on June 29, 1941 in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Jim grew up on a farm near Rock Rapids and attended country school through the 8th grade then attended high school in Rock Rapids, graduating in 1959. He attended Morningside College in Sioux City, graduating in 1963.

He started officer training school in the Air Force at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas in 1965 graduating as a Second Lieutenant. He earned his Pilot Wings and was assigned his F-101 fighter jet.

In December 1968 to December 1970 Jim was based at Clark AFB in the Philippines. From there he flew Vietnam missions. He was a Captain when his service ended.

Jim married Karen Braunschweig in May 1965. Two daughter were born to them, Nicole and Krista.
His banking career began in Rock Rapids in January 1971. His last stop was in Graettinger, Iowa where he stayed until he retired. Jim considered Graettinger his hometown. He held many positions in the bank. Retiring in 1998. In his retirement he worked part time at EPS for a few years.

Jim married Lorraine Beschorner Eldridge in 1989. Jim loved to hunt and spent many, many hours on the golf course. He was on the board of the Graettinger Municipal Light Plant for many years. He also served on the board of the Graettinger Development Corp (golf course). He was a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine and two daughters, Nicole (Travis) Henrickson from Spirit Lake and Krista (Mike) Fuller from Ankeny; two step daughters, Angela (Kris) Tomlinson from Phoenix, Az and Jessica Rosenberg from Beaverton, Oregon. Brothers Robert Haegele from Prole, IA and Max (Diane) Haegele from Lakewood, CO. Grandchildren Alec, Noah, Emma and Sam Henrickson, Jeanna, Madeline and Abigail Fuller, Sam and Sigrid Tomlinson and Andrew (Pilar)and Madison Rosenberg. Great granddaughter Ava Rosenberg. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

The funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Graettinger with burial at Valley View Cemetery in Graettinger.
