Mrs. McMahon, Algona, Dead, Service Here
Emmetsburg friends of Mrs. F.G. McMahon, for many years a resident here, were saddened to learn of her unexpected death Monday [September 10, 1945] noon at her home in Algona.

While she had not been too well in recent months, she was considered in fairly good health and Monday morning she seemed to be better, talking by phone to her daughter-in-law, Mrs. E.C. McMahon, a few hours before her death. Her son, Roy, with whom she lived, came out to the house before noon and was shocked to find her dead.

Funeral services were held this (Thurs) morning at St. Thomas church here, the body arriving this morning from Algona. Burial was in St. John’s cemetery. Many Emmetsburg and Algona friends attended the last rites. Mrs. McMahon’s husband died many years ago, and she is survived by her two sons, Roy, employed in an Algona bank, and Gene, an Algona attorney. She also leaves two grandsons. A more detailed account of her life will appear later. Father James Duhigg of Livermore said the funeral mass this morning. (Emmetsburg Democrat, Emmetsburg, IA, September 13, 1945)

Many Present at Rites for Mrs. McMahon
Many friends and neighbors attended funeral services at St. Thomas church here last Thursday morning for Mrs. F.G. McMahon, 81, who died unexpectedly at her home in Algona September 10. The Rev. James Duhigg of Livermore, friend of the McMahon family said the mass, assisted by Father C.E. Farrelly, local pastor, and Father Mallinger of Algona. Burial was in St. John’s cemetery here. Father Edward Maynard of Kossuth county was also present in the sanctuary.

Born in Rippon, Wis., in 1864, Mrs. McMahon was the former Nellie Moran. Coming with her parents to Franklin county, Iowa in 1874, she was married in 1895, she and her husband residing in Ackley before locating in Emmetsburg a number of years ago. Mr. McMahon, who operated a feed business here, died here a few years ago leaving his widow with two young sons, F.L. (Roy) McMahon and E.C. (Gene) McMahon.

In later years, when her sons were grown, Mrs. McMahon joined her elder son, Roy, in Algona where he is assistant cashier at the Iowa State bank. Her other son, Gene, and his family also live in Algona, where Gene is practicing law. Although not in good health for some time, Mrs. McMahon had been up and around the morning of her death, and had been preparing lunch for herself and Roy when she apparently suffered a weak spell and reclined on a davenport. When Roy came home for lunch, he found that she had passed away.

Mrs. McMahon was a handsome, gracious person, who never lost interest in her many Emmetsburg friends, although making many new friends in Algona. She provided excellent educations for both her boys and saw to it that their home life and surroundings were ideal and as comfortable as she could make them. Deeply religious, she gave much time and effort to her church when her health permitted. Her death will be keenly felt by all those who knew her, and sincere sympathy is offered her sons in their loss. Besides her sons, Mrs. McMahon leaves two little grandsons and a brother, P.J. Moran of Chicago. (Emmetsburg Democrat, Emmetsburg, IA, September 20, 1945)
