Notice of Mrs. Rachel Phoenix’s death appeared in the Palo Alto Reporter on the day of her death June 20, 1929. Funeral held at the M. E. Church. E. E. and Charles Smith with families, Mrs. Rue Hubbard, and Mrs. Harris from Fort Dodge attended the funeral.

From the “Palo Alto Reporter”, Thursday, June 20, 1929.
“Mrs. Rachel Phoenix Died Today”

“Ruthven, Iowa. Special to Reporter--Mrs. Rachel Phoenix, age 80, pioneer resident of aged 80, pioneer resident of Ruthven, died at 11:15 this (Thursday) morning. Her husband died a few weeks ago.
The deceased lady’s grandson, Roy Hubbard and family left early this morning from their home in Belgrade, Montana, after spending several weeks in Ruthven. They were called back by news of her death.

We go to press too early to print further particulars this week.”

“Roy Hubbard and family of Belgrade, Montana came to attend the funeral service of his grandfather J R Phoenix, Friday last week. He will also visit his mother, Mrs. Gene Cope and other relatives before he returns.”

“E. E. and Charles Smith and families, Mrs. Rue Hubbard and Mrs. Harris of Fort Dodge attended the funeral service for Mrs. Rachael Phoenix held at the M. E. church Sunday.”

Rachel Adeline (Richards) Phoenix was born in June 1849 and departed this life on June 20, 1929. She married James Russell Phoenix on December 20, 1866 at Utters Corners, Wisconsin.
