Mrs. McDonnell Dies At Peoria

Mrs. Sarah McDonnell died at the home of P. F. Hession in Peoria, Ill. Sunday afternoon, after eleven days illness with pneumonia. The remains arrived in Emmetsburg Friday morning, and were taken to the Joe Mulroney home. Funeral services were conducted at St. Thomas church this morning (Thursday), Father McNerney celebrating a solemn requiem mass, assisted by Fathers Kelley, of Graettinger, Sweeney of Whittemore and Maynard of Varina. Burial was made in St. John's cemetery beside the grave of her husband, who died here 33 years ago.

Sarah Derig was born in Madison, Wis. in 1852, being at the time of death 75 years of age. She was married to Terence McDonnell in 1875, at which time they came to live in Emmetsburg. Mr. McDonnell died in 1894. In 1912 Mrs. McDonnell moved to Peoria to make her home with Mr. and Mrs. P. F. Hession, and resided there until death.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Dennis Fargen, of Flandreau, S. D., and a brother, Wm. Derig, of Tacoma, Wash. Also by Mrs. P. F. Hession and Margaret Ryan, both of Peoria, who regarded her as an aunt.

It was not our privilege to know Mrs. Hession personally, but we hear many complimentary things about her from her Emmetsburg friends, whom she visited every year or so.
