August Warnke

Mr. August Warnke passed away at the home of his brother, Frank, in this city on Wednesday morning at 3:30 following a long illness. Mr. Warnke was suffering from pernicious anemia and no hope had been held out for his recovery for a long time. The funeral was held Thursday from Assumption Church, with Rev. Murtagh in charge of the services. The pall bearers were Robert Laughlin, Lewis Phillips, W. B. Freeman, W. J. Brown, W. C. Ruehle and John Perkins. The funeral was quite largely attended as Mr. Warnke was quite well known in this county.

August Warnke was born in Germany on December 29, 1856, and was 68 years of age at the time of his decease. He grew to manhood in Germany and came to the United States in 1880 settling in this county. The greater share of his life since he lived in this county although for a period of several years he was in Idaho where he worked on a fruit ranch. He returned to this county from Idaho about (?) years ago and bought a small house in the south part of this city where he resided until about six weeks ago when he was so ill that he was taken to the home of his brother, Frank. He was far from well when he returned to this county but did not give up until about 3 months ago. He leaves to mourn his death, one brother, Frank of this city and several half brothers who still live in Germany.

Mr. Warnke was a kindly good natured man who had the respect and admiration of all who knew him. He was a devout member of the Catholic church and carried the teachings of his church into every day life. He was accommodating and considerate, made friends readily and retained the friendships once formed. His death marks the passing of another good Christian soul to that better life beyond. His brother Frank Warnke and family have the sincere sympathy of all in their sorrow.
