Death of Michael Patton.

Mr. M. Patton died at his home in this city on Tuesday afternoon. He had been ill for quite a long time, and a few weeks ago his demise was looked for. However, he rallied, and for a time seemed to be gaining strength. Last Thursday he went to Epiphany, and consulted Dr. Krueger in regard to his ailment. The latter told him that he was suffering from an injury to the brain sustained in a fall some time ago, and held out no hope for his recovery. While enroute home Mr. Patton was suddenly taken worse and never rallied, passing to his reward on Tuesday afternoon.

Michael Patton was born in the county Mayo, Ireland, in 1829, where he resided until he arrived at manhood's estate, when in 1850 he came to America and settled at Carbondale, Pennsylvania. Some years later he moved to Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin, and for a number of years he was yard master for the C. M. & St. P. railroad at that place. He was married to Miss Catherine Joyce on June 4, 1868, at Prairie Du Chien, and in 1870 they moved to this county and settled on a farm in Great Oak township. In 1879 the family moved to this city, and have resided here ever since. His wife and six children survive him. His children are Mathew Patton, of Mason City, William Patton, Mrs. W. D. Ferguson, and the Misses Lil, Nellie and Josie Patton, of this city.

The deceased was one of Emmetsburg's highly respected citizens. He was a man who was well versed in the current affairs of the world, being a thorough student of history. His personal integrity was high, and in all respects he strove to attain the highest ideal of citizenship. Those who knew him best honored him most and many words of tribute to his true manhood has been spoken by his friends.

The family have the respect of all in their bereavement. The funeral took place on Thursday morning at 10:30 o'clock from Assumption church, being conducted by Rev. Father Hayes.
