Mary E. Kenyan, 92, 1916-2009
Funeral service for Mary E. Kenyon were held Monday, February 2, 2009 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg with Father Thomas Hart officiating. Interment was at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Emmetsburg, IA.
Mary E. Kenyon, daughter of Joseph R. and Gladys (Patterson) Hotka, was born September 28,
1916 in Johnson County, Iowa. In
1917 her family moved to River¬side, Iowa where they made their home. Mary received her education in rural schools near Riverside and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Riverside in 1934. Fol¬lowing high school Mary graduated from Brown's Business College in Iowa City. She then worked in the business office of Mercy Hospital, and later Miller Trucking Com¬pany and Iowa State Bank and Trust Company of Iowa City.
On April 6, 1953 Mary was united in marriage to Lyle C. Kenyon at St. Wenceslaus Church in Iowa City. They farmed in the Mallard area until 1978 when they retired and moved to Emmetsburg.
Mary was a devoted member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg and was a former girl's 4-H leader.
Mary died Thursday, January 29, 2009 at the Emmetsburg Care Center at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle on May 18, 1996; and a sister, Kathleen Morehouse.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, Joseph and Peggy Kenyon of Mallard, IA and Robert and Melanie Kenyon of Muscatine, IA; a daughter, Colleen Siebels and Ken Llewellyn of Hastings, MN; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Donald and Florence Hotka of Davenport, IA and Philip Hotka of Iowa City, IA; brother-in-law and his wife, Melvin and Valerie Morehouse of Camarillo, CA; as well as many other relatives and friends.
