Mrs. Edna McQuown Rites Today
Funeral services for Mrs. Edna McQuown, 84, Emmetsburg, will be at 2 p.m. today in United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Herschel Hawf, Sioux Falls, S. Dak., officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home in charge. Mrs. McQuown was pronounced dead on arrival at Palo Alto County Hospital July 12.

Mrs. McQuown was born June 5, 1887, at Metz, Iowa, the daughter of George and Lida Benskin Hitchler. A homemaker, she was a resident of the area the past 54 years.

Survivors include three sons; Leland, Wallingford; Ralph, West Bend, and Lee Jr., El Monte, Calif.; five daughters; Mrs. Sanford Olson, Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. Kerm Reeves, Mrs. Norman Barkve, Mrs. Ordean Knudson, and Mrs. Kenneth Rowlet, all of Emmetsburg; and a step-son, Mervin Lauver, Lomax, Ill.; also 43 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Walker, and Mrs. Lola Baty, both of Newton.

She was preceded in death by two sons, a stepson and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Richard Knudson, Norman Barkve, Jr., Gary McQuown, Andrew Wood, Ben Reeves and Kurtis McQuown. ~ Emmetsburg Democrat, July 15, 1971, page A-2, column 2.

Former Newton Resident Dies
Funeral services for Mrs. Lee (Viola Hitchler) McQuown, 84, of Emmetsburg, a former resident of Newton, were held recently at Martin's Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.

Survivors are her husband, eight children, a number of grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Pearl Walker and Mrs. Lola Baty, both of Newton. Mrs. McQuown, who was born in Newton, was married to Lee McQuown of Monroe. Mrs. McQuown was a member of the Free Methodist Church of Emmetsburg.

She died at the home of her daughter in Emmetsburg. Her sister, a sister-in-law, Mrs. John Hitchler and 14 nieces and nephews attended funeral services. --Newton Daily News - July 1971
