George Aylward Services Held

Long time Emmetsburg resident George Thomas Aylward died Thursday, March 27, 1980 at Palo Alto County Hospital. He was 88.
Services for Mr. Aylward were held Saturday, March 29, at 1 p.m. from Assumption Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Donald Ries officiated.
Burial was held in St. John's Cemetery with the Martin-Bails Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Casket beaarers were grandsons of Mr. Aylward: Byran Houlihan, James Houlihan, Kevin Aylward, Paul Carollo, John Brannan and Mike Brannan.
Rosary services were held Friday, March 28 at 6 p.m. at the Martin-Bails Funeral Home.
George Thomas Aylward was born Dec. 13, 1891 in Fairbury, Ill., the son of Michael and Anna (McGonagal) Aylward. Mr. Aylward had lived in Emmetsburg since he was six years of age.
On Sept. 15, 1916, George Aylward and Mary Joyce were married at Wexford, Ia. Mr. Aylward was employed with the Iowa State Highway Commission, retiring in 1945.
Surviving are five chldren: Mrs. James (Bernadette) Houlihan of Harpers Ferry, Sister Catherine of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Aldo (Loretta) Carollo of Milwaukee, Wisc., Mrs. Joseph (Mary) Brannan of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Patrick Aylward of Minneapolis, Minn.; 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Aylward was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, on Feb. 23, 1974; a son killed in World War II; six brothers and a sister.
